Life insurance

The University System of Georgia (USG) has contracted with Minnesota Life for basic and supplemental life insurance for all University System institutions. Benefits-eligible employees receive $25,000 in basic life insurance at no cost to them. Supplemental and dependent coverage is available at group rates. See below for enrollment instructions.

The following summary is intended to provide an overview of the life insurance benefits you are eligible for as an employee of the University of Georgia.

Payment for life insurance premiums
Employees pay for premiums via payroll deduction.

Please note: all faculty who are paid on a ten-month payroll basis will have a triple deduction of premiums on their May payroll checks to pay for May, June, and July premiums.

New employees
New employees who purchase supplemental life coverage within their first 31 days of employment can add 3x their salary coverage without submitting a statement of health, and up to 8x their salary with a statement of health. (Employees who request coverage of more than 3x their salaries during the enrollment process will be sent a statement of health by Minnesota Life.) You are encouraged to enter your beneficiary designations in the MyBenefits@UGA system while enrolling for benefits.
