The Americans with Disabilities Act ( ADA) provides that an employer must make reasonable accommodations* which allow otherwise qualified employees with disabilities to perform essential duties of their position unless it causes undue hardship on the employer.
*Reasonable Accommodations: Modifications or adjustments to a job, employment practice or the work environment for an employee/candidate with known qualifying physical or mental disabilities. Any individual who is not able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation is considered not qualified. An individual with a disability must be qualified to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation in order to be covered by the ADA and must meet job standards such as educational, experiential and licensing/certification requirements as well as other job-related standards.
