Student health insurance

Responsibilties of students NOT eligible for the University contribution

Following are responsibilities of students required to have health insurance. For details of students in this group, visit the main student insurance page.

1. Students with no health insurance will be automatically enrolled in the mandatory plan.
   • The insurance coverage is automatic upon registration for classes.
   • Students should go to the Pearce & Pearce Web site to activate their on-line accounts and to print insurance cards.
   • The insurance premium will be added to the student's account based upon their registration for Fall and Spring semesters.
   • Students must pay the premiums by the due date on their student account.
2. Students with health insurance through a spouse, parent, or other group insurance plan may request an on-line waiver via Pearce & Pearce.
   • On-Line waiver process
     1. Go to the Pearce & Pearce Web site, select the "Waive online" button, and follow instructions.
     2. Waivers must be requested on-line by the stated waiver deadline each semester.
     3. Pearce & Pearce will process the waiver request and notify the student by e-mail.
   • Appeals process
     1. If the on-line waiver request is accepted by Pearce & Pearce, the student will not be enrolled in the mandatory plan. The University will reverse the assessment made on the student account. The student must re-affirm the waiver, however, each semester via the Pearce & Pearce Web site.
     2. If the on-line waiver request is denied by Pearce & Pearce, the student will be provided an e-mail address and phone number to make a personal appeal to Pearce & Pearce.
     3. If the personal appeal is accepted by Pearce & Pearce, the student will not be enrolled in the mandatory plan. The University will reverse the assessment made on the student account. The student must re-affirm the waiver, however, each semester via the Pearce & Pearce web site.
     4. If the personal appeal is denied by Pearce & Pearce, the student will be enrolled in the mandatory plan.
